Anxiously Waiting!
No Dell computer yet! It is very confusing this tracking system with automated generated dates that are wrong and automated calls to ask you when you want it. In the old system, they only call you if they are delivering the next day. I had a very short night because I was very excited about it.
Dave M wrote an email yesterday suggesting that they can only do the trip the first week of May which is okay with me. Thing is they want to go to different locations, Glencoe first to meet with the Hiking Group and then Skye after. I doubt I will go, too complicated and too expensive and I am not willing to sacrifice my comfort like them.
Fast swim but really crowded! I am annoyed by noises produced by this old Compaq and the constructionworkers around the campus.

I’ve Missed iT!
I thought about it for many days and I managed to miss the big day: “March 27 2008”. A full year has passed since I left Australia. I miss its eternal blue sky that I replaced with dreadful clouds above my head in Dublin and now in Manchester. Nothing else to regret besides the weather! No satisfaction yet!
My Dell order went to phase 5, which means it is in the delivery phase. I expect my new baby to arrive sometimes this week. It left Lodz, the 3rd city of Poland, yesterday. I had also the surprise to see my bank account credited back with the money withdrawn for the computer. They had this deal, no payment until October 1 2009…maybe a free Dell in the end :)!This would be called my LUCKY YEAR: 2009.
Yesterday morning, at the pool, Martin was complaining out loud that someone swam right in the middle. The person taking a shower next to him raised his voice and introduced himself as the “bastard who did it”. Karen and I laughed hard!
I have received a call from Dave E at 9:21 pm yesterday. I am guessing it is about the Scotland trip. I was sleeping by then and my mobile phone was on “Silent” mode so I did not hear it. Let’s hope it will happen!

Someone With Guts!
Finally someone insisted at the pool to have one extra lane and he managed to get it! It was so crowded this morning.
I was waiting at the bus stop yesterday when one old fart tried to start a stupid chat. The old prick asked me if I was muslim, where I was,.. etc. In the end, he asked me if I had some money for him. I said NO!
Looks like the trip to Scotland did not get many positive replies. It is hard financially speaking for students anyways.
Still no news from Dell! 🙁

I was really fast today. I had a great sleep and I was unstoppable at the pool this morning. If I can maintain this pace over several days, I would actually increase my level by one little notch. It is nice to swim on Monday because most of the time it is less crowded than the rest of the week. I suppose some people have a hard time to recover from their weekend and start a fresh week on Mondays!
I started to read Hyperion again. It was strange, even though I do not remember the story, every word and sentence I read was familiar. I indeed have read it long ago. Now that I passed the 100 pages, I remember I stopped somewhere there.
I’ve received an email from Dave M yesterday about a trip to Scotland sometimes in April. He has added new names to his email list, up to 9 people now. They intend to go to Kintail or/and Skye. I really like Skye Isle in Scotland. The pictures on the web are very pretty.
Still no news from Dell, I am still at phase 3: Production phase!

Strange Week!

My Asus died on Wednesday Morning! Sad, very sad event! I am glad my Compaq still works. It could be even worse otherwise
On Thursday evening, there was a shoplifter at Superdrug store. I witnessed the whole event. A young black woman was leaving the store when the detector alarm went off forcing her to run away in fear. The cashier rang another alarm and two staff members came quickly to help. The thief got away but it was funny to see the whole thing. A professional beggar got a warning ticket on Oxford Street earlier that day. I never gave to that dude anything. He did not look that desperate to me!
On Friday evening, I made a mistake with the price tag at Superdrug store. I do not know why I was so sure I was right. I left the item at the cashier thinking I was right. Maybe I was in a bad mood due to the death of my Asus.
The movie was very funny: How to lose friends and alienate people. Easy comedy to watch with a group of people. I like this small social event that often gathers the same group of regulars. There was one dude next to me who had a killer breath. Geez! People need to use dental floss combined with a regular brushing otherwise it is a social killer!

I am in a better shape today. I went to bed at 9 pm and had plenty of sleep. My body immediately recovered and the swim was smooth and fast.
Tonight’s movie is: How to lose friends and alienate people. It has a decent rating on imdb (6.9/10) and is classified as comedy/romance. I do not know if there will be many people to watch it since it’s Easter Break and most students in the building are gone. I think there are only 3 people left in my flat.
Still waiting on the Dell computer. I am at phase 3 which is the production phase. Don’t know what they mean by that, I hope it does not mean they are putting all the PC parts together somewhere in India or China! It will really take 19 days then! *sigh* If it is really that long it will be my first and my last order from Dell.
I had my blood results last Monday. They were perfect and the hepatitis B seems dormant so far…so no worries. I thought, because of the regular herpes attack, that everything was messed up inside my body. It was probably just a readjustment period when I came back to Europe.

Knackered!
I am completely wasted. Bad nights and bad days, the combination killed me. The swim was decent, still faster than many people but my shoulders are sore.
I ordered a new Studio 17" Laptop from Dell. I tested the Asus using the Compaq’s HD and it did not work so the problem is more complex than I thought. Anyways, to go further and make new guesses would imply buying peripherals to test the old Asus completely. It’s not worth it and I just bought a new one. Easier, faster and more enjoyable. I hope it won’t take 20 days like the site said it would for my order to come. If I knew it was that long, I think I would just pick a HP laptop in one of these stores in town! Too late to do anything about it anyways, I am keeping fingers crossed!

New Ideas!
After a disturbing night with dreams involving HD, reinstallation, booting system, windows copy, etc…Here I am with fresh ideas for the day. So all I need now is a cheap IDE HD for my Asus and the problem should be fixed. I can use my Compaq to do whatever I need to do and not feeling completely helpless like yesterday. My new rule for next time when something like this happens is: SIT TIGHT and THINK for at least 3 hours!
VJ, my old flatmate from the US messaged me on Monday on MSN. He finally passed his PhD defense. A very old friend from IRC also messaged me. Usually when so many people from the past message me there is something big coming. I thought it was something good but it was only my Asus that is dieing :). Irony of life!
It is funny though. I still behave like a kid when it comes to computers. With all my experience and my knowledge in computers, I am still a kid!

What a day!
Yesterday was one of these days where I seem to lose all control and behaved like a newbie. At 11 am, after a nice powernap, I woke up and I started my Asus laptop. I noticed several minor problems and I decided to reinstall. The Hard Drive died! There goes the long list of painful events that followed:
1. I used the old Compaq’s HD to confirm that it was the Hard Drive by swapping them. I hurt my right hand using the tiny screw drivers TWICE!
2. I remember that the Asus’ DVD can only read manufacturer copies of windows XP, so I went everywhere to ask for a windows copy. The Univeristy, some shops: cheapest solution was 30 GBP for a reinstallation!
3. I went to town to check for a spare IDE HD for laptops and maybe the price of a new copy of windows XP.
4. It was a big waste of my time and I truly lost my logic! I could have come up with the same results by sitting at home and doing nothing. But I needed to move to think. I gave up and came back home to think. Then came the solution! My old Compaq couldn’t restart when I moved from Dublin to Manchester so I thought it died. I put the HD back and started the old dinosaur! Miracles do happen and it rebooted nicely.
5. Malinda called and she gave me her copy of Windows XP home ed.

Great Weekend!
Very relaxing and excellent food as usual! We went to check all the stores around the area and even in Paris. I could see my Lolita again. She cannot move much but the memory from the old time came back. When I took her out for a little walk, she grabbed a small piece of wood and gave it to me. It is her way to let me know she wants to play. Sadly for her, she cannot even walk normally. Time…time! My brother fancies this electric belt that is supposed to make your abs muscles work while your sitting at your desk. I tried it out and I loved it. It gives me tickling feelings at low level that resemble a massage. He gave it to me. Very very cool toy to have if you cannot afford a real massage. I booked another flight for next month, it will be my birthday…
Only me and the fat British chick in the flat. She put the trash in her room again in the common bin, I went and asked her about it and she denied but she offered to bring the trash down herself. I just wanted her not to forget next time. I do not mind taking the trash in the common room down regularly but I do not want people to add their own personal trash in there. Very fast swim and as predicted lazy and slow pokes weren’t here today. It was a bit early even for me and I had a few beers last night so it was a bit unpleasant this morning. Now let’s find the courage to brush up on my Law Exams. I will start tomorrow :).
